The England international has been nominated for the honour alongside
fellow Premier League stars Robin van Persie, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata,
Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale, with the winner due to be announced on

Cristiano Ronaldo ruled out of Madrid derby
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo will not play in Saturday's derby clash with Atletico due to a minor leg injury picked up in Wednesday's match against Borussia Dortmund, the Champions League semi-finalists have revealed.
Reports had circulated across Spain that the Portuguese star would not feature for los Blancos against their city rivals and assistant coach Aitor Karanka confirmed his absence.
"Cristiano Ronaldo will not be in the squad for tomorrow," he stated at a press conference on Friday.
"With the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo and [Alvaro] Arbeloa, the rest are well and tomorrow our best team will go out to win."
Karanka went on to say that every member of the capital club's squad must give their all against Diego Simeone's side as they look warm up for their Champions League clash with Dortmund on Tuesday.
"Tomorrow we have to be at 120 per cent and go out with the maximum level of intensity," he continued.
"There are still big games left and the team is going to be at that level. We have to go out tomorrow with a winning mentality and increase the points lead [over Atleti].
"The best way to present yourself for Tuesday at the Bernabeu is winning. It's the best way to get motivated."http://posts.fanbox.com/ddlv5

Bayern defeat a disgraced Barcelona
Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi feels his side's devastating 4-0 defeat against Bayern Munich
in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie was a
disgrace, but has admitted that the Bavarians deserved their win.
Barca's loss represented their heaviest defeat in European competition and Messi conceded that the odds are against the Catalans turning the tie around at Camp Nou next week.
The second leg will take place at Camp Nou on May 1.

Nigerian football drama continues as 17 ‘Club Owners’ sack LMC
The drama in Nigerian football assumed a new dimension on Sunday when 17 Nigeria Professional Football League club chairmen and managers met at Lamonde Hotel, Wuse, Abuja and unanimously dissociated themselves from the League Management Company (LMC).
The club proprietors in a statement gave their reasons for the dissociation saying LMC was an "illegal company” and it “was registered without the consent, resolution and approval of the clubs who are the supposed directors of such company as well as the allocation of 20 million shares to Honourable Nduka Irabor representing 80 percent of the total shares and five million shares to Alhaji Aminu Maigari on behalf of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) representing 20 percent of the total shares."
17 clubs with exception of Heartland FC, Sharks FC and Dolphins FC, signed the communiqué issued after the Sunday, April 21, 2013 emergency meeting of the Nigeria Professional Football League club chairmen and managers.
The Club Owners, as they are fondly called, summed up by sacking the League Management Company.
"Consequent upon the illegal registration of the League Management Company Limited by Hon. Nduka Irabor League Management Committee, we hereby disassociate and derecognise the League Management Committee forthwith".
